Will California's Real Estate Market thrive Again? I Say absolutely it will.

Here's why: There's no other place like California! As you may know, I've made it one of my life's goals to see all 50 states. I'm on state 39. While there are many states that have great beauty (Alaska wins hands down in this category) California offers more options. Great weather for one. As I write this, today's high is a sunshiny 80 degrees in early November! Compare that with other parts of the country. A friend of mine just told me it only took him a little more than 2 hours to drive to Yosemite National Park from Sacramento. Imagine one of the world's great parks is just a short drive away. And where else can you find amazing and fun cities like San Francisco and LA?

But what about the economic meltdown in California's government so often spoken of in the media? If any state will thrive I believe it will be California. Just look at what's going on here: Electric cars, businesses that announce their secret sales over twitter, a private rocket launching company, energy conservation negating the need for more power plants, leadership in lowering harmful emissions, growth in solar energy and low energy LED lighting.

All these things create opportunity for forward-looking entrepreneurs and savvy businesspeople. These optimistic ideas attract a lot of venture capital which may lead to more future jobs. And look at the natural resources for future growth: mountains, the seashores, the agricultural bounty. And then there's Hollywood which with its movies and TV programs create the trends that the rest of the world follows.

No matter where I travel, I see California show up. In New York an advertisement in a restaurant said, "Made with real California strawberries." California wine is served in restaurants everywhere we've traveled in the US. And I cannot tell you how many times people have said, "Oh you're from California!" It's as if they're saying, "Oh, you're from the land of the wild, eccentric people." They probably got that from watching the TV show Baywatch.

So, despite wildfires, earthquakes and other negative California news, people will still come here because economic growth will emerge from the state with the best new ideas. I think that place will be California.

If I'm right, people will continue to move here for the opportunities that will be available here. That influx, in turn, will put upward pressure on the state's real estate values.

It won't happen over night. There are a lot of issues to overcome. But I am confident it will happen eventually.
